Give the Gift of Life!
Two years ago my cousin, a mommy, wife, daughter and all around amazing person needed a liver transplant. She lived a very healthy life and yet, in the prime of her life with lots of people depending on her, she was in an unimaginable position- get a transplant or not be around to see her son grow up.
Thankfully and almost miraculously a donor was found in her area, exactly the right charectaristics needed for her. After an incredibly long surgery, months and months of complete bedrest, a ton of immunosuppressive drugs, she was able to live as normal a life as someone who has been through such an incredible ordeal would be able to live.
The thing is, Andrea is not just a woman who is lucky to be here, she is one of the most incredible human beings I’ve ever met. She’s so positive, kind and caring- asking about how I’m feeling as she sat at HUP waiting for a transplant. While she has had some post-surgery scares, she faces each one with an amazing attitude and an incredible sense of humor. If anyone should have been given a second chance at life, it’s her. She teaches me about gratitude, about living every day to its fullest, about creating a loving and nurturing home for her family and for being there for those she loves, no matter what.
I’m sharing this to urge everyone to consider being an organ donor. Without her donor making this lifesaving decision, this amazing person wouldn’t be here today!
This Saturday, we’re all participanting in the Donor Dash to raise awareness and money for this super important cause. Please consider contributing.
