All heart, NEW lungs!!!
Welcome to my fundraising page. My brother Walt was born with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disease that affects every organ system in the body. He has worked hard his whole life, as a flight nurse for JeffStat and recently...just trying like hell to stay healthy. Walt and I underwent a liver transplant in August of 2011 (he got half of mine). It was not an easy recovery (physically or emotionally) but we were blessed with more family time, laughs, bad politics and summers at the beach. Since then our mom, Maryellen, has been a dedicated volunteer at the Gift of Life Family House. We have so much to be grateful for.
UPDATE: On March 22, 2019 Walt received the Gift of Life...new lungs!! After just 6 days on the list he got the call and is now recovering from a double lung transplant. We are forever humbled by the family that chose donation in the face of extraordinary pain and loss.
Since 1996, the Gift of Life Donor Program along with its dedicated volunteers have hosted the Donor Dash to promote organ and tissue donation and to raise funds to educate the community about the critical need for more people to register as organ and tissue donors. All proceeds received through fundraising for the Donor Dash benefit Transplant Foundation, the charitable foundation supporting the mission of Gift of Life Donor Program.
Please consider supporting me in the Donor Dash on April 14th. I will run a 10k race in honor of my brother who has been my "better half" for 43 years, even before the liver transplant! There are currently 116,000 people in the US waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.
